5 Breastfeeding Holds to Try
Try these ways to hold your baby, and figure out what works best for you.
There are many ways to position yourself and hold your baby while breastfeeding. What's most important is figuring out what works for you. Try all the positions until you and your baby are comfortable. You may even use different positions for each feeding. If you are struggling to find the right hold for you and your baby, contact your WIC breastfeeding staff.
No matter how you position yourself, remember:
- Pillows can be your friend! Try them under your arms, elbows, neck, or back for support. They don't work for everyone, so see what's most comfortable for you.
- Always raise baby to your nipple height, rather than leaning over your baby. That will make breastfeeding more comfortable and help your baby get a good latch.
Try these five holds to see which ones work best for you and your baby.
