What's in Your WIC Food Package
What your WIC food package offers if you're breastfeeding.
As part of the WIC program, moms get nutritious food packages. WIC's goal is to encourage mothers to breastfeed without supplementing with infant formula. What's in your food package depends on how much you're breastfeeding and how much infant formula your baby may get from WIC. WIC staff provide moms with a breastfeeding assessment and help mom meet her breastfeeding goals. Moms who fully or partially (mostly) breastfeed their infants are eligible to participate in WIC for up to one year after giving birth.
Fully Breastfeeding Food Package
Moms who breastfeed their babies and do not get infant formula from WIC receive what's called a fully breastfeeding food package. It has more food than food packages that include infant formula. This package has milk, juice, cereal, eggs, fruits and vegetables, whole wheat bread and other whole grains, canned fish, legumes, peanut butter. When their babies are 6-12 months old, these moms also get baby food meats.
Partially Breastfeeding Food Package
Breastfeeding moms who feed their baby mostly breast milk, but also some infant formula from WIC, get what's known as a partially (mostly) breastfeeding food package. This package includes milk, juice, cereal, eggs, fruits and vegetables, whole wheat bread and other whole grains, canned fish, legumes, and peanut butter.
