The WIC Breastfeeding Check-In tool is designed for the CPA as a quick reference that contains Breastfeeding Reassurance Tips to help address common concerns among breastfeeding women and a WIC Infant Formula Tailoring Calculator to assist in individually tailoring infant formula issuance amounts based on the reported amount of formula consumed. A few tips to keep in mind when using the tool:
- The tool can be used in conjunction with existing State agency-developed breastfeeding assessment forms and tailoring formula policy/procedure.
- It's important to begin by reviewing any nutrition and breastfeeding assessment and/or counseling notes.
- The Tailoring Calculator is designed for full term healthy infants who are consuming standard 20 calories per ounce infant formula.
